Sitting in Myrte’s backyard, I admire the potted plants and enjoy the sun on my cheeks and the hot blush of Moroccon mint tea on my tongue. She’s served me a slice of “the best Easter stollen in the shops” (from the Lidl, you read it here – thanks for the tip Myrte!) with lashings of butter. Yum. With my senses on alert, I am ready to settle into a discussion with Myrte about the translation of her pictures onto products – namely, skirts and dresses. Maybe she can let me in on a few tricks?

This year’s fashion design highlights from all the major Dutch academies are on show, curated by talent scout Carlo Wijnands. Modebelofte 2010, the fourth edition now, gives recently graduated fashion talents the podium, from Amsterdam to Maastricht and from Arnhem to The Hague. And of course Eindhoven.

Puff, puff, puff, puff. I’ve just resurfaced from Paris, ready-to-wear fashion parade in Paris. It’s all prints, lame and big shoulders. But then it’s organic materials, natural flowing lines. Or maybe bright party girl watch me ride a circus horse in the big ring look. So much information, so little time. Now the question is, how much of all this will translate into accessible looks to be found at your local H&M or in the streets of Eindhoven? I might ask a few experts in the coming weeks. Watch the video for next season’s colours, silhouettes and patterns. Buy some red lipstick. And grow your hair. Long hair is back.

When you walk into The Ponyclub Berlin you will be immediately charmed by the decor. When you meet your hairdresser, if it’s Diana, then you’ll see she is the spitting image of Keira Knightly. Lithe and tall, chiseled of feature, she sported the very same mane that her doppelgänger wore in the Pirates trilogy; long, blonding, tumbling and feminine. (Yes, one could argue that she looks like a young Julia Roberts, aka Horse Face, but I don’t really want to make that link to this wonderful establishment.). When you add nice interior design and model hairdresser, you think this is gonna be expensive.

The summer edition of Ellie’s Kledingkast clothing swap party was an all day event, from 2pm until late, and not just an evening party set-up. There were many patrons there with birthdays in the 90s and onwards (many as young as 6 years of age, in fact I think I saw a newborn there!) as well as grandmas and grandpas and everything in between, so a diverse range of people could join in the fun. It was a rare chance to see Eindhoven’s fashionistas in one location (it was so overwhelming, that the most I could do was point and gape), to hear some good old dirty blues music care of the Screaming Margaritas (with the moniker ‘Bikini Fatsos’ for the afternoon) and just to sit around and have a drink with friends, old and new.

The VOD = Vintage clothing swap party took place in The Building, at Strijp-S, in Eindhoven on Friday 27 November. Die hard fashion fans happily huddled in former factory building The Building, even though it was cold. A reported 250 women of all ages, sizes and tastes milled around, nursing plastic cups of wine and the smallest bottles of sparkling water you can justify charging €2 a pop. The men present were mainly there for techie purposes, or had roles like photographer, master of ceremonies or boyfriend. The makeshift second hand “store” stood in the corner waiting to be rummaged through thoroughly. My companion and I admired the feathers and frills of the patrons. It was going to be a fun evening.
