A couple of things to hold onto while surfing into 2011 A couple of things to hold onto while surfing into 2011
November 17th, 2010

Is it just me? Is there anyone else out there feeling the adrenalin rush of riding the wave of post-summer pre-silly season activity as the year draws to a close?

Mid-november round up Mid-november round up
November 11th, 2010

There’s a bevy of things to do in town this weekend and for some odd reason, the council has allowed at least four really fun things to clash. But don’t worry, with a bit of careful planning maybe you can do them all …

Many roads lead to Eindhoven Many roads lead to Eindhoven
November 6th, 2010

Brainport Development has put a fair load of time, money and energy into the Brainport International Weekend 2010, and from what I’ve seen, the response has been solid. I am sure that at the party, held at the Dynamo last night, I heard at least ten different accents and languages – let’s see, Chinese, Hebrew, American, French, British, Indian, Danish, Polish, Dutch and Tunisian. I’m sure there are scores more too.
Brainport International Weekend continues today and tomorrow.

Two pieces of Brill-iant advice Two pieces of Brill-iant advice
November 5th, 2010

It’s not every day that you meet an old soul like Erik van Schenk Brill, only 29 years of age. I came into the interview with Erik all a fluster. The weather was rotten, and I had torn myself away from the cosiness of my house and ran-walked through misty rain to our agreed meeting point. I was not sure which way to drive the interview: for Erik wears two hats that I knew of – webdesigner and a musician. Which way to go?

The Van Abbemuseum director, Charles Esche’s definition of “collection as a strategy to create an image of a social situation” is the perfect explanation of what it is The Dossier has been attempting to do since launching officially in June this year.

Did somebody mention a monumental mansion? Did somebody mention a monumental mansion?
September 14th, 2010

Open Monumenten Dag (Open Monument/Heritage Day) is a good way to discover the heritage of Eindhoven. Not only tourists can learn new things about the city, long time inhabitants can be just as surprised by the buildings on display. I thought I knew my share about old industrialists’ mansions in Eindhoven since I live next to (unfortunately not in…) the ‘Villapark’ neighbourhood, which is peppered with these disproportionally large houses. This year’s theme of Open Monument Day, ‘the taste of the 19th century’, showed me some villas I’d never laid eyes on before. Contributed by Floris.

A question of time A question of time
September 7th, 2010

Can’t write long, no time. Came back from holidays a week ago, dashed over to Paris at the weekend, everyone’s flooded me with assignments / interviews / podiatrist appointments and the like. Hardly a moment to remember to eat / drink / shower. Have arranged to get rid of my other half this evening so I can find a spare minute to write down everything I need to do in the next 2 weeks, and scratch myself. Argh! Maybe the “Questioning Time” symposium at the Design Academy holds the answer/s?
